In Scripture, God frequently spoke through dreams. Abimelech learned that Sarah was Abraham's wife through a dream (Gen. 20:3-7). Jacob had a dream of a ladder between heaven and earth (Gen. 28:10-22), and reported a dream in which an angel gave him instructions about the mating of male goats (Gen. 31:10-13). God warned Laban against mistreating Jacob in a night dream (Gen. 31:24). The cupbearer and baker (Gen. 40) and Pharaoh (Gen. 41) all had dreams which Joseph was able to decipher. God spoke to Solomon through a dream (1 Kings 3:5). Daniel was able to interpret Nebuchadnezzar's dreams (Dan. 2:1-45; 4:5-33). Daniel himself had a dream (Dan. 7:1-14). Joseph, Jesus' earthly father, had three separate dreams from God (Matt. 1:20-24; 2:19; 2:22).
